During the June 9 Bryan City Council meeting, council members approved $65 million worth of funds for capital improvements for fiscal year 2026-27.
What you need to know
According to agenda material, the approved budget will primarily go toward the following projects:
- Travis Bryan Midtown Park
- Street improvements
- Drainage
- Fire equipment
- Animal shelters
- Professional services
The funds will be coming from a combination of tax and revenue certificates to support the city’s Capital Improvement Plan. The maximum budgeted amount allowed is $70 million, so the city will be under budget for its efforts.
Digging deeper
As previously reported by Community Impact, the city of Bryan has made continual efforts to improve infrastructure and develop projects throughout 2026. Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez said he is proud of the city’s growth and continued lowering of interest rates due to the ability to pay off the debt that the city accrues from these projects.
“When we had seven bids, it was a big deal, and now we had 11 this time,” Gutierrez said. “Every time our percentage of interest goes down, too.”
