The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County announced that during early voting and on Election Day, Nov. 7, registered voters can ride for free to and from Houston-area voting locations.

Explained

From Oct. 23-Oct.29 and on Tuesday, Nov. 7, free transportation will be available for the 2023 elections, according to a news release. The following transit services are included for the free fare:
  • METRORail
  • Local bus
  • METRORapid
  • Curb2curb
  • METROLift paratransit services
Voters will only need to inform fare inspectors or bus operators that they are going to or returning from the polling sites.

The conditions

Users who want to map out their route can use the RideMETRO website or app. Polling locations throughout Harris County can be found on the Harris Votes website. According to the county clerk's website:
  • 68 early-voting centers are open through Nov 3.
  • They are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays and noon-7 p.m. on Sundays.
  • On Election Day, 701 voting centers will accept voters from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m.
