Over the Sept. 9-10 weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation plans to shut down all I-69 main lanes at southwest Loop 610 as crews continue work on southbound connector ramps that has been ongoing over the summer.

What’s happening?

All northbound and southbound I-69 main lanes will be closed at Loop 610 from 8 p.m. Sept. 8 through 5 a.m. Sept. 11, according to a Sept. 6 news release from TxDOT.

Southbound drivers should detour to the Loop 610 northbound main lanes, take the San Felipe Road exit, U-turn at San Felipe Road, take the next entrance ramp onto the Loop 610 southbound main lanes and take the connector to the I-69 southbound main lanes.

Northbound drivers should detour to the Loop 610 southbound main lanes, take the Bellaire Boulevard exit, U-turn at Bellaire Boulevard, take the next entrance ramp onto Loop 610 northbound and take the connector to I-69 northbound.

One more thing

The $259 million I-69/Loop 610 project has been underway since 2017 and involves building two-lane connector ramps in addition to shoulders on Loop 610. The project is slated for completion around mid-2024, though TxDOT officials said there are incentives in place to encourage the contractor to complete certain phases faster.
