Officials with the city of West University Place announced the western portion of the intersection of Buffalo Speedway and University Boulevard will be closed for roughly four to six weeks for construction beginning July 11.

Eastbound traffic will be directed north onto Rutgers Avenue, where drivers can then turn east onto Rice Boulevard, south on Belmont Street, and west to get back to University.

Westbound traffic on University will be directed north onto Buffalo Speedway, then west on Rice, south on Rutgers and west back onto University.

Southbound traffic on Buffalo will need to detour onto Bissonnet Street or Rice, according to an update from the city.

The construction is part of Phase 3 of the Buffalo Speedway Project and is expected to be complete in late 2022. The project involves road surface reconstruction and drainage improvements at the cost of an estimated $23 million, about $9.2 million of which comes from federal grants.
