METRO is waiving fares for local bus, Park & Ride, METRORail, METRORapid, and METROLift, though METROLift customers will need to schedule trips in advance by calling the transit authority’s reservation line.
These customers need only to tell the bus operator or fare inspector they are either an active military member or a veteran, and their fare will be waived, according to a METRO spokesperson in an email to Community Impact Newspaper.
"METRO wants to thank our nation’s veterans for their service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country and our communities," METRO President and CEO Tom Lambert said. "These are ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things, and they represent the best our country has to offer."
The free fares offered to veterans and active service members is annual, and joins other veteran-focused benefits offered by METRO including its Veterans Pass, which provides qualified U.S. military veterans with free, unlimited rides on its light-rail, local bus and Park & Ride service if they meet two specific criteria.
