After a massive, multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion project, the Samuels Family Community Pavilion is set to open its doors at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center on Jan. 3, according to a Dec. 28 news release from ERJCC officials.

Updates to the new property included making the entire campus handicap accessible. Those visiting can access the ramp next to the new front entrance as well as several elevator banks throughout the building that lead to the second and third floors.

Members will now have three designated spaces to use as changing rooms, including gender-neutral family locker rooms located on the first floor and rooms for adults on the second-floor.

For children, programs being offered include designated play spaces, after-school enrichment classes and gymnastics.

The public can dine at the renovated Laykie’s Cafe. A new fitness center will not be open until 7 a.m. Jan. 8, giving officials time to move equipment to the pavilion, according to the news release.

In order to more easily access certain buildings, three different entrances are now in operation. Visitors can enter on South Braeswood Boulevard for Bertha Alyce School; from the Boniuk Indoor Tennis Center; and from the Weingarten Outdoor Tennis Complex.

Visitors should on enter on Atwell Drive if they are looking to access the Weingarten Building, Gymnastics Center, Temporary Fitness Center or the Jewish Federation.

The center is located at 5601 Braeswood Blvd., Houston. 713-729-3200. www.ournewj.org
