It was three years ago when owners Carlos and Cynthia Rodriguez opened up their refreshment-focused shop, Refresqueria, in Texas City.

On Nov. 7, the couple opened their second shop in Rice Village at 5407 Morningside Drive, Houston, offering a variety of Mexican-inspired snacks, including mangonadas, fruit bowls, candy, ice cream and snow cones, along with salty snacks such as elote and cheese-covered hot Cheetos.

“This space opened up and we thought it would be really good to be here,” Carlos said. “There is a lot of foot traffic and dining options here.”

Carlos and Cynthia offer expansive menu options influenced by their experiences growing up with refresquerias, which offer street-style sweet and salty Mexican snacks.

However, Refresqueria makes sure to offer other items, including banana splits, milkshakes and ice cream sundaes, Carlos said.

“Anyone can enjoy our menu,” he said.
