Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center will launch three different projects at two of its Houston-area locations starting this month.

What's happening?

The hospital announced in a Jan. 6 news release that the Baylor St. Luke's McNair Campus, 7200 Cambridge St., will relaunch inpatient rehabilitation services and expand its patient capacity in January.

The 30-bed inpatient rehabilitation center will serve patients who suffer from conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex neurological disorders, amputation and orthopedic injury.

According to the release, Lifepoint Rehabilitation, the largest manager of hospital based acute rehabilitation units in the country, will provide operational management services for the center.

More details

The campus will also see two floors of surgical care move from the Texas Medical Center location to the McNair building.

Dr. Brad Lembcke, president of Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, said in the release that the move is to improve patient experience and the delivery of care. However, care will continue to be delivered at the Texas Medical Center campus as part of a two-campus strategy.

“The continued expansion of our McNair campus enhances our ability to provide excellent care, positive outcomes and an outstanding experience to all who come to Baylor St. Luke’s," Lembcke said. “In addition to modern conveniences and amenities for patients and guests, the McNair campus supports the latest cutting edge technology and is adaptable to future advancements."

The Texas Medical Center campus, 1101 Bates Ave., is also anticipated to receive an upgrade and undergo a four-year, $25 million cosmetic renovation project.

According to the release, Phase 1 is scheduled to begin in January and wrap up in October 2026. The project includes redesigning the 58,000 square feet of the hospital's main lobby, cafeteria and three nursing units.

The main lobby will undergo a transformation that includes an updated valet area, a more spacious lobby featuring new flooring, ceilings, furniture, lighting, signage, artwork and accent walls, as well as a newly designed reception desk and visitor kiosk.

The new space will also include more seating options with high-top tables, lounge seating, and bar seating with new lighting and sound systems.

The expansion projects also includes upgrading flooring, paint, wall protection, furniture and signage at multiple nursing units. According to the release, additional units will be renovated during later phases of the project.
