With the support of Baylor College of Medicine and Harris County, a free clinic catering to teens in the southwest Houston area is now open.

A new Baylor Teen Health Clinic is now accepting appointments at Bayland Community Center, according to an Oct. 16 news release.

The health care system provides free and confidential primary and reproductive preventative services for Harris County adolescents and young adults between ages 13-24.

What to expect


Services offered at each location include:
  • Gynecological services
  • Birth control and family planning
  • Sexually transmitted disease screening and treatment
  • Primary health care
  • Immunizations
  • HIV/AIDS education and screening
  • One-on-one counseling sessions
  • Mental health services
  • Spanish-speaking health care providers and translation services
In addition, Baylor Teen Health Clinics offer programs to address educational and familial needs of communities around Houston through programs such as Ascend, the North East Adolescent Project and the Texas Nurse-Family Partnership.

Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones attended the grand opening ceremony alongside Peggy Smith, CEO of the Baylor Teen Health Clinic system, and other Baylor officials, per the release.

Briones said in the release that access to quality health care is critical for the community to thrive.


“Opening this free clinic in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine is a significant step forward in providing access," Briones said in a statement. "We will be providing world-class, comprehensive, preventative health care services to our youth, ensuring they have the resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.”
