Members of the "We Are Evergreen" Committee launched a public survey Oct. 23 to hear what Bellaire citizens are looking for at the Evergreen Park and Pool Complex.

What's happening?

Bellaire City Council member Cindy Taylor has spearheaded the committee’s development and said the survey is an opportunity for citizens to voice their opinions on the redevelopment project.

“We want our residents to be a part of the decision-making process; their voices truly matter,” Taylor said.

The eight to 10 minute questionnaire asks about both the park and pool complex with questions that focus on household use, the condition of existing amenities and what kind of future playground features residents might want to see.

Residents can complete the survey on the "We Are Evergreen" website. The survey will close on Nov. 22.

Taking a step back

According to an Oct. 23 news release, the goal of the "We Are Evergreen" committee is to help develop and procure funding for the redevelopment of Bellaire's Evergreen Pool and Park Complex. Anticipated projects include:
  • Creating an all-inclusive playground that will remove barriers, and provide people of all abilities to play and learn in an accessible and safe environment
  • Renovating the pool complex with a modern swimming pool, better lighting and improved restrooms
  • Providing a green space with flexible uses for recreation and relaxation as well as a covered event venue
Bellaire City Council authorized the creation of the ad hoc committee Sept. 16 during a regular council session.

Next steps

Bellaire officials said gathering feedback from the community through the survey is the first step of the project. The committee intends to hold town halls in early 2025 before working with the city to develop a more comprehensive plan.

According to the Sept. 16 council presentation, pending results of community involvement, the committee will establish themselves as a nonprofit organization and develop the internal structures to support fundraising efforts.

As of Oct. 24, the committee does not have a total project cost, however, Congresswoman Lizzy Fletcher has already secured a $600,000 grant for the all-abilities playground.

Residents can make donations or sign up to volunteer on the committees website.
