West University Place residents who live along the 2900-3000 blocks of Duke Street saw road work begin July 29 as part of the city's second phase of an east side drainage project.
West U officials announced construction crews with TB Concrete Construction, the company contracted by the city to carry out the project, will remove pavement in 800-foot sections. Once the pavement is removed, the existing storm sewer pipe will be replaced with a larger storm sewer pipe. As the pipe replacement process is completed, the roadway will then be repaved.
What residents should know
Here’s how residents will be impacted, according to city information:
- Driveway access to identified properties within the work zone will be impacted. Affected residents will be notified prior to the removal of their driveways.
- Residents will be provided with temporary driveway access at the end of each workday.
- City contractors will remove driveway aprons with a light broom finish and will not include pigment, color, tile, brick or patterning installation.
- Drivers should expect delays to travel routes as construction continues
How we got here
The $15.77 million dollar infrastructure project began in April 2023. Construction crews officially began work on the city’s east side in May, as previously reported in Community Impact.
