The Shannon Walker Neighborhood Library is set to open its doors June 1 with a grand opening celebration.

The 23,260-square-foot space is expected to be a community hub with a variety of amenities, including the first library cafe, a passport office, a recording studio, a podcast room, TechLink and several meeting rooms. It will serve the Westbury, Meyerland, Brays Oak and Hiram Clarke neighborhoods.

The Shannon Walker Neighborhood Library is named for local NASA astronaut Shannon Walker. She was was selected by NASA to be an astronaut in 2004 and completed her first space flight in 2010. Walker is a Houston native and graduate of Rice University and Westbury Senior High. She is expected to be present at the library's grand opening event.
