After more than two months since enacted, Harris County officials lifted the burn ban Oct. 10.

While the burn ban is no longer in effect in unincorporated Harris County, outdoor burning is still not allowed across Texas, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

The fire marshal's office shared alternatives to burning waste, including:
  • Recycling
  • Composting waste
  • Mechanical chipping or mulching of wood and plant products
  • Logging of trees cleared for development
  • Utilizing landfills
