Seven candidates filed for a seat on West University Place City Council in elections that will take place this May. Registered voters will head to the polls May 6 to elect a mayor and four council members.

Two candidates are running for mayor, and five candidates are running for the four City Council positions, according to filings with the city secretary.

Mayor Susan Sample is up for re-election against Council Member John Barnes. The mayor and council members are elected from the city at large and will serve two-year terms with up to three consecutive terms.

The last day to register to vote is April 6, and the last day to apply for a ballot by mail is April 25. Election day is May 6. Candidates in contested races will have Q&As in the April edition of Community Impact. Compared to the last City Council election in 2021, fewer residents filed for a place on the ballot. Twelve candidates filed to run in 2021.
