A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 14 at 5505 Belrose Drive, Houston, slightly ahead of a more recent prediction that construction would start in the first quarter of 2023.
Located in the Westbury area, the library is named after a NASA astronaut and native Houstonian, who attended District K’s Parker Elementary School, Johnston Middle School and Westbury High School, Community Impact previously reported.
The long-awaited library is meant to serve as a replacement for the Meyer Library, which flooded during Hurricane Harvey. It will also house the Frank HPL Express Library.
Once open, the library will feature areas for children, teens and adults as well as a meeting room, conference room, computers and a TechLink area equipped with video, music and multimedia technology.
The $13 million project is being carried out by Brave Architecture and contractor SpawGlass, according to HPL information.
