With all voting centers reporting in Harris and Fort Bend counties, unofficial final results show Caroline Kane came out ahead by 42 votes in the runoff for the District 7 seat of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The details

Overnight, Kane jutted ahead of opponent Kenneth Omoruyi, who had maintained a slight lead against Kane as of Community Impact's last reporting May 28. Results show:
  • Kane with 50.42% of votes, or 2,524 votes
  • Omoruyi with 49.58% of votes, or 2,482 votes
Neither candidate responded to requests for comment by press time. Community Impact will update the story when responses are received.

Results are still rolling in for Harris County, but Kenneth Omoruyi maintains his slight lead against Caroline Kane in the May 28 Republican primary runoff for the District 7 seat of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In Harris County, 77 of 313 voting centers are reporting; Fort Bend County has released final unofficial results, as all 44 voting centers have reported.

Results show Omoruyi has a 108-vote margin on Caroline Kane. A more detailed breakdown of votes so far include:
  • Omoruyi with 51.47% of votes, or 1,892 votes
  • Kane with 48.53% of votes, or 1,784 votes

Early voting results from Harris and Fort Bend counties show Kenneth Omoruyi has taken the lead in the May 28 Republican primary runoff for the District 7 seat of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The results are in

Results show Omoruyi has 51.73% of votes, or 1,544 votes, while Caroline Kane has 48.27% of votes, or 1,441 votes.


The backstory

The runoff occurred after Omoruyi and Kane came out as the top two candidates against two other candidate in the March 5 Republican primaries. In the primaries, Omoruyi earned 42% of the vote, while Kane had 25% of the vote.

The details

The district, represented by Democratic incumbent Lizzie Fletcher, includes Bellaire, West University Place and portions of the Sugar Land area. The winner of the Republican runoff will face Fletcher in the Nov. 5 election.

Omoruyi is a certified public accountant, while Kane is a small-business owner working in the property management industry, they said in a questionnaire with Community Impact.
