Houston ISD board managers approved the district’s academic calendar for the 2025-26 school year that will begin the school year Aug. 12 and end June 4.

Board managers approved the 2025-26 academic calendar at their Feb. 13 meeting.

The new calendar will add an extra instructional day for the next school year, raising the schedule to 181 total days.

Officials noted the calendar was created using feedback from HISD's District Advisory Committee, district teachers and staff, campus leaders and community members.


A closer look

According to the calendar, HISD students will have two week-long breaks and one two-week break throughout the year, including:
  • Nov. 24-28
  • Dec. 22-Jan. 2
  • March 9-13
Additionally, no classes will be held for students on the following dates:
  • Sept. 1: Labor Day
  • Sept. 2: staff development day
  • Oct. 2: staff development day
  • Oct. 3: student and staff holiday
  • Nov. 7: staff development day
  • Jan. 5: staff development day
  • Jan. 19: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Feb. 13: staff development day
  • Feb. 16: President’s Day
  • March 30: Chavez-Huerta Day
  • April 3: student and staff holiday
  • May 25: Memorial Day
According to the calendar, summer classes will be held from June 10-July 17, with the exception of holidays on June 19 and July 2-3.
