Officials with the Houston Public Library announced they will open the new Dr. Shannon Walker Neighborhood Library this fall.
The background
The Dr. Shannon Walker Neighborhood Library received official approval from Houston City Council during an October 2021 meeting and is named after the NASA astronaut who attended Houston District K’s Parker Elementary School, Johnston Middle School and Westbury High School.
- The new community gathering space, located at 5505 Belrose Drive, Houston, will serve the Westbury, Meyerland, Brays Oaks and Hiram Clark communities, according to a news release.

The library will serve as the new central location for the following libraries:
- George B. Meyer, Sr. Neighborhood Library, 5005 West Bellfort Blvd., Houston
- Morris Frank Express Library, 10103 Fondren Road, Houston
In order to prepare for the library opening, officials announced that the Morris Frank Express Library will close Aug. 31. Residents are recommended to visit three nearby library locations including:
- Walter Neighborhood Library, 7660 Clarewood Drive, Houston
- Houston Public Library Southwest Express Library, 6400 High Star Drive, Houston
- McGovern-Stella Link Regional Library, 7405 Stella Link Road, Houston

- Conference room
- Computers
- Tech area for video and music studios and multimedia technology
- Dedicated space for children, teens and an adult area
