The city of Houston has announced a meeting scheduled for May 5 for the planned development of new affordable homes along Stella Link Road.

The meeting will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Harmony School of Ingenuity on 10555 Stella Link Road, Houston. It is intended to give nearby residents a chance to provide input on the project's design, including facades, colors and greenspace layout.

Homes in the 12.2-acre area between Stella Link Road and Main Street will be made for residents making 80% or less than the city’s median income, equivalent to $44,350 for single-person households, according to Houston’s Housing and Community Development Department.

Plans include the construction of townhomes, duplexes and condominiums as the city attempts to create higher-density communities. The project’s goal is to create 240 “disaster-resilient” single-family homes and is part of the Harvey Single Family Development Program.

Houston City Council approved the purchase of the land for just over $14 million at a March 31 meeting using Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funds. Lovett Custom Homes Inc. was the seller in the transaction.

Subsequent community meetings will be held May 17 and 31.
