Hospitals affiliated with the medical center reported 1,491 total COVID-19 patients, 153 fewer than seen Aug. 3. This is down from over 2,000 patients July 27.
Data collected by TMC spans hospitals in nine counties in Greater Houston, including Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller counties.
In that same vein, the number of new patients being hospitalized for COVID-19 continued its decline, with the TMC admitting 148 new patients—levels not seen since mid-to-late June.
The number of total occupied intensive care units saw a slight bump since Aug. 3, with 1,349 ICU beds in use, which is above the 1,330-bed threshold that necessitates additional staffing and beds, as outlined in the medical center’s Phase II plan.
This number included 512 COVID-19 patients, a 10% drop since Aug. 3, when there were 569.
An increase in non-COVID-19 patients in ICU explained the overall increase.
The TMC saw 103 more deaths directly associated with COVID-19 since Aug. 3, with totals in the hospitals since the pandemic began at 1,637 as of Aug. 7.
The rate of deaths attributed to the coronavirus has been slowing, however.
From July 20 through 27, the TMC saw total deaths increase by 276. From July 27 to Aug. 3, that increase was 260.
