West University Place residents, members and guests who plan on spending time at the Colonial Park pool once it opens at the beginning of May can anticipate a couple changes, according to city officials. Parks and recreation staff are in the process of obtaining pricing for these four items to create “an enjoyable green space”:

• Remove approximately half of the existing deck on Case Street
• Improve airflow
• Install low-maintenance artificial turf
• Install picnic tables

"We’re excited to create an enhanced green space for the community to enjoy,” Director of Parks and Recreation Susan White said.

Once pricing is received for the deck repairs and the addition of the new artificial turf, White said it will not require City Council approval.

The Colonial Park pool will open to members on weekends beginning May 6 and to residents and their guests on weekends beginning May 7-29. During the preseason, the Case Street deck may not be available. However, White said her staff anticipates project completion ahead of the summer season June 1.
