Houston City Council approved an agreement to give 13 acres of land to the Harris County Flood Control District for the construction of three interconnected detention basins in Meyerland at its Sept. 4 meeting. The Harris County Commissioners Court approved the agreement Aug. 27.

The flood district will perform the design and construction of the basins located along Brays Bayou at the Loop 610 and South Braeswood Boulevard.

Construction is expected to begin in December and finish in April 2020 at a cost of $1.2 million, HCFCD Deputy Executive Director Matt Zeve said.

The basins are expected to provide about 30 acre-feet of detention for diverting stormwater and for flood mitigation.
