Husband-and-wife Duo Hans and Jen Straub are poised to open a locally owned franchise in Bellaire of the national gym and fitness program known as D1 Training.

At a glance

D1 Training was originally founded in 2001 by Will Bartholomew, a former NFL player for the Denver Broncos. The Tennessee native opened a single facility focused on providing Division 1-style training to athletes in his hometown of Nashville.

The company has since expanded into a franchise with over 100 locations across the United States, with a significant expansion planned in 2025 focused on Texas, Florida and Tennessee, according to the company's website.

Zooming in

D1 Training is a membership-based athletic training facility that offers programs for various age groups and skill levels, from beginners to collegiate professional athletes. It's known for what is called its signature 5-Star Training Program, which focuses on athletic-based training principles.

The program is updated every eight weeks and incorporates dynamic warm-ups, performance training, strength training, core and conditioning and cool-down stretching.

Franchise owner Hans Straub, who will operate the new location off of Braeswood Boulevard, is a former strength and conditioning coach for the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program.

"I consistently observed that athletes entering college were often inadequately prepared," Hans said of his two-decade experience. "Consequently, my wife and I recognized the imperative to prioritize the comprehensive development of youth athletes. The D1 Franchise presented us with a unique opportunity to address this need, and we’re excited to bring it to Bellaire, as well as the surrounding area."
