Global wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has opened a new corporate office in downtown Houston—which is considered to be the energy capital of the world.

The details

Laura Beane, president of Vestas North America, called Houston an ideal location for their U.S. expansion due to its proximity to several of the company's wind projects, customers and suppliers.

"Producing homegrown energy, powered by the hard work of Americans nationwide, is critically important," Beane said in a statement. "We look forward to increasing our presence in Texas and continuing to provide generational jobs to Americans across the state."

Steve Kean, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership, said in a Feb. 24 news release that the Vestas office opening underscores Houston's position as a premier energy hub and desirable location for businesses—bolstered by talent, infrastructure and a pro-business environment.

Vestas already has a presence in Texas that includes:
  • Installing 3,500 wind turbines
  • Supplying power to 7 million homes
  • Employing 500 people
