Nearly two years after opening a Rice Village location in the summer of 2022, the international footwear and apparel brand Allbirds has closed shop at 2503 Amherst St., Houston.

The details

Known for its simple and sustainable footwear, as well as their eco-friendly apparel for men and women, officials with Allbirds' corporate office decided to close several of its stores in 2024, according to Rice Village General Manager Aj Jennings.

Part of the San-Francisco based company's strategic transformation plan included closing 10-15 U.S. retail store locations in 2024, according to the company's reported fourth quarter financial results from December.

In a March news release from Allbirds, officials said that they were going to reignite growth and improve capital efficiency in order to drive improved profitability. The company appointed a new CEO in 2023, who was tasked with working in key transformation plan areas, including retail store profitability.
