The Westbury Park Pool will reopen May 25 after a two-year construction effort.

The big picture

The pool first closed for the 2022 season and remained closed in 2023 while officials worked to install new filters. The park is located at 10605 Mullins Drive, Houston.

Meanwhile, other city pools are slated to reopen in phases, taking into account storm damage from the May 16 derecho storm and an ongoing lifeguard shortage.

According to a May 24 news release, pools that will be open during a pre-summer kickoff from May 25-27 and will open for the season on June 1 include:
  • Agnes Moffit: 10645 Hammerly Blvd., Houston
  • Emancipation: 3018 Emancipation Ave., Houston
  • Love: 1000 W. 12th St., Houston
  • North Wayside: 9551 North Wayside Drive, Houston
  • Westbury: 10605 Mullins Drive, Houston
  • Wilson Memorial: 100 Gilpin St., Houston
Pools that will open June 2 include:
  • Greenwood: 602 Beresford St., Houston
  • MacGregor: 5225 Calhoun Road, Houston
  • Mason: 541 S. 75th St., Houston
  • Schwartz: 8203 Vogue Lane, Houston
  • Stude: 1031 Stude St., Houston
  • Townwood: 3402 Simsbrook Drive, Houston

“We are eager to provide Houstonians with a safe place to cool off during the summer. At the same time our priority is to ensure their safety while visiting our pools,” said Kenneth Allen, director of the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, in a statement.

Moving forward

The parks and recreation department is continuing to seek lifeguards to work the 2024 season. Pools that will open June 8 are to be announced.
