The New York Deli & Coffee Shop and The Bagel Shop Bakery, 9720 Hillcroft St., has announced it will hire about a dozen employees from Belden’s grocery store, with the option of starting the day after the grocery officially closes sometime this month.

“Our team and the larger Jewish community in Houston will miss Belden’s, as it has been a Meyerland staple,” said Michael Saghian, co-owner of New York Deli & Coffee, The Bagel Shop Bakery and Houston Catering Concepts, in a news release. “While we are disappointed to see this institution close, we are grateful to soon employ many of its former team members and bring in so many of the scratch-made breads, baked goods, kosher products and deli items customers know and love.”

The new hires come as the bagel shop looks to expand with a new location in Bellaire offering a significantly larger dining space later this year.
