Officials from the Harris Central Appraisal District are reminding property owners to apply for the derecho temporary disaster exemption by Sept. 3.

The gist

Harris County property owners, whether for business purposes or personal property, who had physical damage during the May derecho wind storm are eligible for an exemption which could reduce 2024 property taxes for a portion of the appraised property value. Damage to trees or shrubbery is not eligible.
