Organizers are reviving a feasibility study for a Clear Lake water taxi service that could provide a cross-lake transit alternative to driving or taking an Uber.
“It’s just a neat attraction, and something that would capitalize on one of our biggest assets: the Clear Lake area,” said Stephanie Polk, communications & community engagement manager for the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau.

In 2008, Seabrook funded the project’s first feasibility study, but damage from Hurricane Ike stalled the project.
About three years ago, regional tourism and economic development stakeholders asked the Houston-Galveston Area Council to update the study, officials said.
Looking ahead
The updated study will look at whether the service should be privately operated, fare-based or part of a larger transit network, said Amy Skicki, president and CEO of the Bay Area Houston Transportation Partnership.
Skicki said she hopes the updated study will identify how to incorporate a trolley service connected to the water taxi routes to bring passengers to attractions, such as NASA and League City’s Historic District.
Because the routes cross multiple jurisdictions, planners need partners’ cooperation, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for waterway use and dredging, Polk said.
Skicki said funding is confirmed, and Harris County Precinct 2 will seek bids for an updated study.
