1. Harris County Precinct 3 pilots new approach to street repair with recycled tires
Harris County Precinct 3’s road and bridge department is giving old tires a second life with a new approach to street repairs that aims to cut maintenance costs and clean up landfills.
Road and bridge crews installed recycled tire rings beneath new asphalt to stabilize the foundation of the road, officials said.
Precinct 3 staff performed repairs March 12 along a portion of Lindstrom Road in Crosby, but Road & Bridge Director Jennifer Almonte said the strategy could be replicated throughout unincorporated Harris County to fix potholes and cracks.

2. Buttermilk Cafe opening in Willis
Buttermilk Cafe is planning to open its doors in the Willis area in May.
According to its website, beyond offering sweets and drinks, Buttermilk Cafe is a registered nonprofit organization.
“Buttermilk Cafe is a cafe with a cause,” Director of Development Lauren Swonke said. “We exist to provide exposure and funding to nonprofit organizations that are caring for foster children, adoption support, veterans and others.”

3. Big Air slated to open Missouri City location this summer
Big Air, an indoor trampoline and adventure park, is slated to open a new Missouri City location this summer.
The 30,000-square-foot location will offer various attractions, including a dodgeball court, obstacle course, slides and a toddler play area, according to its website.
The Missouri City location will also offer specialized programs for younger children and high-energy events for older kids, officials said.

4. Booked and busy: 31 stores to visit during the Houston Independent Bookstore Crawl
The Houston Independent Bookstore Crawl is back in 2026 with 31 independent bookstores participating from April 1-30.
For those interested, participants will need to pick up a bookstore crawl card from one of the participating bookstores and get a stamp. For each store visited, the participant will get a stamp or a signature from the bookseller.
As part of the crawl, a raffle will be held in which participants enter for a chance to win special gifts when they visit 15 bookstores.

5. New modern, retail, dining space coming to League City
The League, a mixed-use space with nearly 47,000 square feet of retail, is slated to come to League City by the first quarter of 2027.
Along with a mixed-use space, The League will include an apartment complex with over 300 multifamily units within a six-story lifestyle center with flexible ground-floor retail opportunities.
Ideal uses for these retail opportunities include food and beverage shops, fitness, youth services, entertainment and flex use, according to leasing documents.
