The details
Exploration Green’s website has a QR code that visitors can scan to access a survey where they can choose names for the park’s six ponds.
The survey, which ends March 22, includes information about the wildlife that live at Exploration Green to help survey takers pick the most appropriate names for the ponds.
Looking ahead
The Clear Lake City Water Authority, Exploration Green and first responders will review the submissions and make the final decision.
The winning names will be announced at the March 29 Exploration Species: A Bio Blitz Competition event, which will be held at Exploration Green’s Phase One parking lot.
The backstory
Community Impact previously reported that construction on Exploration Green was completed in fall 2023. However, not all the plants have been installed yet and the last of its trees will be planted by spring 2026.
The Clear Lake City Water Authority, which owns the park, purchased the land for Exploration Green in 2011 and held a groundbreaking ceremony in 2014.
Once completed, the park’s amenities will include 4,000 trees, 60,000 wet plant plants and 215 bird species.
