Certain areas of La Porte and portions of Spencer Highway that were closed or evacuated following the Sept. 16 pipeline explosion have reopened.

On Sept. 17, La Porte Police Department announced that it reopened Spencer Highway between Underwood Road and East Boulevard.

Spencer Highway remains closed between East Boulevard and Luella Boulevard, officials said.

The west side of the evacuated area in La Porte has been reduced and the remaining areas still under evacuation are bounded by Willow Springs Bayou, Spencer Highway, Canada Road and Oakhaven Road, according to the social media post.




The department said evacuation orders for these areas will likely remain in place at least through Sept. 18, according to the social media post.

La Porte Fire Department continues to supervise the uncontrolled burn of the damaged pipeline.
