Clear Creek ISD adopts new math instructional materials

The committees’ recommendations to the board include adopting Bluebonnet Learning materials from Great Minds for kindergarten through fifth grade, and Bluebonnet Learning materials from Carnegie Learning for courses spanning sixth grade through Algebra II.

For secondary mathematics electives, the recommendation includes the following publishers:

• McGraw Hill for on-level precalculus
• Math Medic for advanced placement precalculus
• Cengage for AP Calculus AB/BC and financial math
• Pearson for AP Statistics
• Cozenza & Associates for algebraic reasoning

Bluebonnet Learning’s K-5 program places a strong emphasis on written mathematical reasoning and justification, and includes a daily review, according to district documents.

The textbook also includes a family portal, which allows parents to access lessons, workbook pages and homework, district officials said.

The background

House Bill 1605, passed during the 88th Texas Legislature in 2023, replaced the traditional textbook adoption process with the Instructional Materials Review and Approval system, or IMRA.

Under IMRA, the State Board of Education evaluates and approves instructional materials based on quality, alignment to standards and accuracy, allowing school districts to consider options from a state-approved list, according to district documents.
