Galveston County saw 425 new cases of COVID-19 July 2 and 3, putting cases at 3,990 just before the holiday weekend.

Additionally, one resident died from the coronavirus July 2. Five died July 1, making them the first deaths from COVID-19 in the county since June 11.

Coronavirus cases have been surging in recent weeks in Galveston County and in Texas as a whole. Since June 1, there have been 3,173 new cases in the county, meaning nearly 80% of Galveston County's cases have been recorded in the last five weeks of what has so far been a 16-week outbreak in Galveston County.
