The Houston-Galveston Area Council awarded League City an honorable mention for the planned Clear Creek Paddle Trail extension project in the Planning Process/Policy Tools category as a part of its 2022 Parks & Natural Areas Awards, according to a League City news release.
The project aims to extend the trail by a mile and add two American with Disability Act-compliant kayak launches at Kansas Avenue and another by the Clear Creek Nature Center, according to the project scope of work.
The trail is a partnership between League City and Galveston County, which combines a county park with two city parks and runs about 6.5 miles from Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside Park to Heritage Park. The trail was originally designed and constructed in 2012, according to the park description on League City's website.
Construction work on the project is expected to begin at the end of 2023 or start of 2024, according to the news release.
