Star Cinema Grill has announced it will open its fourth Greater Houston area location by the end of this week at the former Alamo Drafthouse location at 114 Vintage Park Blvd., Bldg. H, Ste. J, Houston.
The last day the location operated as the Alamo Drafthouse was Sunday.
On its website,
Alamo Drafthouse announced Tuesday that four new locations will open in Houston in a multi-year development deal, including one in Sugar Land.
The new owners of the Vintage Park theater will update the decor and add recliners, push-button service and other amenities before the projected reopening date of Friday, Dec. 9, according to a press release from Star Cinema Grill.
Star Cinema Grill owners said the theater will honor tickets sold at the location by the Alamo Drafthouse for the upcoming release of the film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
Like the Alamo Drafthouse, the theater chain offers moviegoers a menu of appetizers, entrees and desserts and a selection of beer, wine and cocktails.
“This acquisition comes at a great time for our company and we’re very excited to expand our footprint in the Houston market," said John Walsh, vice president of operations for Star Cinema Grill. "Even though the theater will no longer be an Alamo Drafthouse, the goal is to retain all of the great people that work at the Vintage Park location, as well as continue to host special events and screenings whenever possible."
Star Cinema Grill announced it will have at least six locations in the Greater Houston area by the end of 2017. It currently has locations in Baybrook, Conroe and Missouri City.
The Alamo Drafthouse opened in Vintage Park in February 2013.
On the unofficial public Alamo Drafthouse Vintage Park website, patrons posted their farewells to the movie theater chain over the weekend.
An opening date has not been announced for the Alamo Drafthouse Sugar Land location, but the address is listed as 198 Kempner St., Sugar Land on the theater chain's website.
