First weekend in May to bring festivals, crawfish

There will be no shortage of activities for residents to do this weekend with a variety of public festivals kicking off in Tomball and Magnolia.
Rails and Tails Mudbug Festival—May 2-3
11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tomball Historic Depot Plaza
201 S. Elm St., Tomball
The city of Tomball will be hosting its annual two-day Rails and Tails Mudbug Festival to celebrate the Southern tradition of crawfish season.
Keeping with the theme, Cajun food will be served by the French Quarter Grill, and beer will be available from Louisiana's Abita Brewing Company. This year's event will feature the Bayou Belly Buster Challenge, a boudin ball eating competition, and the Roux Run, a crawfish race.
The festival will feature live music from Louisiana's Rockin' Fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux on Saturday and local Beatles cover band The Fab Five on Sunday.
Admission and parking are free.
Corks n Canvas—May 2
3 to 8 p.m. at The Magnolia Stroll
Between Clepper and Yon streets in downtown Magnolia
On The Stroll, guests can sip on a glass of wine from Bernhardt Winery while browsing art, jewelry and handmade goods from local vendors.
For those who are not wine drinkers, local craft beer from Lone Pint Brewing will be available along with honey wine from Enchanted Manor Meadery. Small bites of tapas-style food will be served.
Jazz pianist Greg Tivis as well as singer and songwriter Willy Wall will be performing at the event.
Admission and parking are free.
Crawfish Boil, Car Show & Craft Fair—May 2

Magnolia West High School will be hosting its fifth annual Crawfish Boil, Car Show and Craft Fair to raise money for the senior prom on May 23.
Crawfish will be sold by the pound for $6 a plate, including corn and potatoes. Vehicle registration for the car show is $20 in advance or $30 at the door. Awards for Best in Show and People's Choice will be distributed.
