Montrose TIRZ launches parking study as first step toward identifying solutions

Officials with the Montrose Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone launched a survey last week to gather resident feedback on parking challenges in the neighborhood.

What's happening?

The survey asks residents to use an interactive map to gather specific locations where there are concerns about parking, as well as answer a list of questions that vary between two different survey options—one for residents, employees and visitors to Montrose, and another for commercial tenants and business owners.

Questions include open-ended inquiries, yes or no answers, and multiple choice. Some examples of questions include:

• Does parking availability influence whether or not you frequent a particular location in Montrose?
• Are there specific days or times when parking is especially difficult?
• How should the parking spaces required by code for new developments be addressed?
• Do you feel like you have enough dedicated parking for your business?

Some background

According to previous Community Impact reporting, the survey is one portion of an overall parking study being funded by the reinvestment zone, which was first discussed in May. The $140,000 survey includes project management, community engagement, presentations and local business coordination.

However, since the topic was first discussed during the board meeting this summer, the map boundaries have changed.

Also of note

As part of the study, an inventory is also being conducted on nonresidential off-street parking lots and garages, and on-street parking.

TIRZ officials said the inventory and the survey are anticipated to help provide a clearer picture of the parking situation in Montrose, which will be utilized at a later date to make recommendations for solutions.
