Houston looks to schedule public hearings to gather feedback on proposed public improvement bonds

Houston City Council is set to vote at its Sept. 28 meeting on setting the dates for three public hearings the city will use to gather feedback in seven bond propositions that will be on ballots during the Nov. 8 election.

If approved by the council, the meetings will take place at the City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 901 Bagby St., Houston. Two of the hearings would take place in the evening, while one would take place prior to the Oct. 19 Council meeting.

They are tentatively scheduled for the following times, pending council approval:

• Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
• Oct. 12 at 6 p.m.
• Oct. 19 at 9 a.m.

In addition to being able to speak on the proposed bond propositions, the meetings will also provide information on them to attendees.

The seven bonds, totaling $478 million, would each separately go toward a part of city operations, including public safety, parks and public health. They would fund about $194 million in capital improvement projects that are already included in the city's 2023-27 capital improvements plan and have not yet been funded.

However, they would also provide $274 million for projects from 2028 and onward that have not yet been determined.

The council is set to meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 28.
