Candidates Christina Morales and Inocensia Moreno will vie for Texas House District 145 in the Nov. 3 general election.
Texas House of Representatives District 145 encompasses portions of central Houston, representing major neighborhoods in the Heights, East End and the Northside.
On the ballot
Incumbent Christina Morales assumed office in 2019 and has represented the district for over seven years. Morales ran unopposed in the Democratic primaries.
Inocensia Moreno also ran unopposed in the Republican primaries, which she advanced from back in March.
Preparing for the polls
In Harris County, early vote centers will open Oct. 19 at 7 a.m. and remain open through Oct. 30. The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is October 23.
On Election Day, vote centers across the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents can view more voting center information on the Harris County Clerk's Office website.

Why are you running for this position?
I hope to have a greater positive impact on the community. There is a great demand for change and improvement. For too long our area has been neglected and with the demand for improvements, there needs to be accountability and transparency on how those changes will affect our neighborhoods.
What are the biggest challenges facing this district?
affordability, crime, education, infrastructure and immigration are the challenges that our district is facing and has been facing for years. We need to focus on the current needs of the district as well as how to prepare for the future to protect the communities.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
Working with elected officials to address tax rates, education, infrastructure, emergency preparedness and making sure we address the growing needs of the district. It will take working with all aspects of government to ensure that the community is better served.
What will you do to bring down the cost of living for Texas residents?
Making sure that there is no price gouging within neighborhood markets. Working with all levels of government in limiting the raising of taxes. Working on keeping the cost of both health and home insurance down. Holding job fairs and encouraging support from local organizations to assist the community in times of need.
What will you do to support small businesses and promote economic growth in Texas?
First of all, streamline the permitting process with the city and the county. Currently a small business has a very difficult time getting permits. Crime is another factor. Small businesses are being targeted, and recovery is costly for them. I will work with local agencies to ensure safety is in
