UPDATED: Georgetown ISD to remain open for regular school day Feb. 11

Georgetown ISD will continue the Feb. 11 school day as planned, Superintendent Fred Brent said in an update.

"Temperatures are predicted to warm up above freezing this afternoon, and we believe that our students and staff are safest to remain on campus until road conditions improve for safe passage," he said.

School buses will continue to operate on schedule; however, if families wish to pick up their children, they are asked to notify campus officials, he said.

All after-school activities have been canceled, including YMCA after-school care for elementary school students, he said.

Brent said he will send out another update at 6 p.m.

Georgetown ISD will continue to keep students on campus Feb. 11 despite weather concerns and other entities closing early, Superintendent Fred Brent said in an email to parents.

"At this time, we believe that keeping students in school is the safest option until roads have a chance to dry out and/or be treated," he said. "We will continue our efforts with local authorities and weather officials in preparing for decisions that can impact the school day."

Brent said he will issue another update at noon.

Williamson County announced at 10 a.m. it plans to close its offices at noon.
