Williamson County officials plan to reorganize several departments within county facilities to alleviate overcrowding, County Manager Rebecca Clemons said at a Sept. 22 Commissioners Court meeting.
What's happening
Clemons proposed relocating the majority of the Information Technology Department into the former Williamson County Georgetown Tax Office in order to repurpose existing space for the Elections and Adult Probation departments.
The IT Department is currently housed in the Inner Loop Annex.
"This would provide the space needed for both [adult probation] and elections," Clemons said. "[It will cost] minimal dollars to revamp what we currently have over at the Inner Loop for those groups to use it."
The move will allow the Adult Probation Department to bring on two new employees needed for growing operations, Clemons said.
Additionally, the plan includes reorganizing the Sheriff's Office to create space for a future Medical Examiner's Office.
The Sheriff’s Office employees will move into the front of the complex, leaving the back section—which connects directly to existing cooling units and drop-off areas—for the Medical Examiner's Office.
The backstory
Several county departments moved into the new Administration Building in July, freeing up some space in other county facilities, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
County officials have been implementing department moves since October 2025 to alleviate overcrowding and accommodate growing government operations, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
What's next
Commissioners voted 5–0 to approve the relocation plan.
Facilities staff will make minor modifications to begin the moves immediately. Once the spaces are fully vacated, staff will review with department heads and present finalized plans to the court, Clemons said.
