Georgetown swears in new, re-elected council members

Newly elected Council Member Amanda Parr and re-elected Council Member Kevin Pitts were sworn into office for the city of Georgetown following the May 10 canvassing and certification of votes.

Parr beat incumbent Mary Calixtro with 60.39% of the vote, or 279 votes, for District 1.

“First of all, you know to my friends and my family and my campaign team I am so grateful to all of you. I could not have done this without your support,” Parr said. “I also want to thank of course the voters of District 1 for instilling their trust in me to take on this role. I know when you choose someone on the ballot you don't always know everything about the person that you're choosing, but the commitment that I made to the district is that I will be open minded, transparent and accessible.”

Pitts maintained his District 5 seat with 81.13% of the vote, or 1,359 votes.

“I look forward to continuing to represent all of District 5 as I have the last three years,” Pitts said. “I’m glad to be back. I’m glad to be able to continue to serve and continue to try and work for Georgetown, for the residents, to fix any issues we have going on and to try to make Georgetown a better place than the way we found.”

After the swearing-in ceremony, Pitts was re-elected as mayor pro tem.

Before swearing in its new members, City Council recognized Calixtro.

“I want to thank God for giving me this faith to put my name on the ballot [and] to have this experience of being on council," Calixtro said. "I just want to thank all the voters who came out; it doesn’t matter who you voted for.”
