The Georgetown Parks and Recreation department received approval from City Council to move forward with a feasibility study for expansion of the current recreation center and potential construction of a new facility at a meeting Oct. 25.
Georgetown Parks and Recreation Director Kimberly Garrett informed council members that ongoing public feedback and conversations with stakeholders including the Georgetown YMCA have identified the need for more indoor recreational space and programs.
"Public input shows that people want more indoor fitness areas including classrooms, an indoor playground and event space," Garrett said.
Garrett said that with the city's consent on Oct. 25, the department will accept submissions for consultation contracts related to identifying the budget, timeline, square footage, programs and location of a new facility and renovations of the current facility.
