Georgetown City Council approves nearly $62M interceptor project

Georgetown City Council approved a construction contract with Ward & Burke Tunneling Inc. for a nearly $62 million Berry Creek Interceptor project at a Jan. 23 meeting.

The details

The Berry Creek interceptor—a sewer that transmits large volumes of wastewater to a wastewater treatment facility or sewer overflow—project consists of installing approximately 24,000 feet of wastewater pipe ranging in size from 8 inches to 60 inches via open cut and trenchless micro-tunneling, according to city documents.

The project also includes the installation of 46 polymer concrete manholes as well as ancillary items for completing the wastewater interceptor from Airport Road near Berry Creek Drive east to Pecan Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant, according to city documents.

The line for the interceptor was identified in the 1989 wastewater master plan and plans to expand the current wastewater service area beyond Sun City, according to city documents.

The cost

City Council approved the contract for Ward & Burke Tunneling Inc. in the amount of $61.84 million.

Tunnel construction is set to begin this month, with pipe installation beginning in May. The project is expected to be completed in February 2026, according to city documents.
