With Williamson County reporting the results from all in-person early voting and election day ballots cast, David McDonald has won the Republican primary runoff for the Precinct 2 Commissioners Court seat.
The breakdown
McDonald received 63.11% of votes cast, or 5,384 votes. His opponent, Jeff Mayes, garnered 36.89% of the vote, or 3,147 votes.
Looking ahead
Because no Democratic candidate ran in the March 3 primary election, McDonald will appear uncontested on the ballot in November, clearing his way for election to Commissioners Court.
He will fill the seat currently held by Cynthia Long, who decided not to seek reelection after 20 years on the court.
McDonald is a former Leander City Council member and a transportation consultant.

All results are unofficial until canvassed. Williamson County is still partial reporting its mail-in ballots.

Unofficial early voting results in Williamson County show 31,350 out of 458,803 registered voters, or 6.8%, cast their ballots early or by mail for the May 26 runoff election.
The results
For the Williamson County Precinct 2 commissioner seat, David McDonald is leading the race against Jeff Mayes. McDonald has received 3,622 votes, or 65.72%, with Mayes at 1,889 votes, or 34.28%.
Precinct 2 covers most of Leander and Liberty Hill as well as portions of Cedar Park, Georgetown and Austin.

In the March 3 primary election, McDonald won 46.06% of the votes, amounting to 5,837 ballots cast, and Mayes received 29.48% of votes, or 3,736 ballots cast, according to the Williamson County Elections Department.
No Democratic candidates ran for the position, which means the winner of the runoff will appear unopposed on the November ballot.
