Georgetown ISD officials may have the option to convene a citizen's advisory committee at an upcoming meeting.
What's happening
The GISD board of trustees will have an action item on the Aug. 21 meeting agenda authorizing its new superintendent, Devin Padavil, to create a citizen's advisory committee. The formation of such a committee is an initial step in evaluating existing district facilities and resources in anticipation of a potential bond, district officials said.
Explaining the role
As in the 2021 bond, the committee would be made up of community members selected to serve through an application process. CAC members are volunteers and required to live within the bounds of GISD, according to the district. Committee members are intended to represent the district's own diversity and complex interests.
How we got here
Voters approved $333.42 million in its 2021 bond election, and some of those projects are currently in progress. However, recent growth has led the district to consider whether additional investments in facilities and infrastructure might be necessary. The update regarding a potential action item to form the committee came during an Aug. 7 workshop.
