Brookwood in Georgetown, a vocational and residential program for adults with special needs, has moved to providing connection through virtual platforms, according to an April 8 news release.
BiG program staff have created multiple options to be enjoyed from the safety of homes, including informative, instructional and fun videos posted daily on the BiG YouTube channel as well as multiple daily Zoom calls to help its adults stay connected, the release said. Videos and calls vary in length, and content includes daily devotionals, exercise routines, games, singing and just hanging out online with friends, it said.
“The health and well-being of our [adults] is our highest priority,” said Erin Kiltz, founder and executive director of BiG, in the release. “So, we are doing everything possible to keep them engaged and active virtually with our staff and with their fellow citizens during this time when they can’t be on campus due to COVID-19 precautions.”
BiG serves 80 adults with special needs across three campuses in Williamson and Travis counties. Many of its adults work to supply the nonprofit’s shop and cafe with baked goods, jewelry, cards, artisan crafts and more.
