Georgetown's disaster declaration extended beyond May 11

Georgetown’s disaster declaration has been extended indefinitely.

“Even with all the changes coming from the state, we think it’s a good idea to extend the declaration,” Community Services Director Jackson Daly said to council members at the April 28 meeting.

Daly noted the state has not rescinded its disaster declaration, even with the governor’s order on April 27.

Mayor Dale Ross first declared a local state of disaster on March 14. On March 19, City Council approved a resolution ratifying the declaration and consented to its continuation until May 11.

“At this time, the conditions necessitating the disaster declaration will continue to exist beyond May 11,” staff documents said.

Maintaining the order ensures the city continue to request aid from the state and have flexibility when it comes to making operational decisions, Daly said.

Council unanimously approved the extension, which will continue until the council moves to terminate it or the statewide disaster declaration is terminated.
