DATA: Williamson County ranked 12th for most unemployment claims; Georgetown continues to see claims even as businesses open

Over 1,000 Georgetown residents filed unemployment claims between April 29-May 30, even after the city began to open, according a Texas Workforce Commission unemployment claim dashboard.

Within that time, 1,094 residents of Georgetown’s three ZIP codes—78626, 78628 and 78633—filed unemployment claims, data shows. Williamson County began to open businesses May 1.

The one-month snapshot is down from TWC’s March 16-April 16 report, when Georgetown had 3,113 claims, which represented the highest number of claims within a month since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The TWC also ranked Williamson County 12th out of 25 Texas counties for highest unemployment counts with 8,169 claims over the past month. At its peak between March-April 16, Williamson County had 23,211 unemployment claims.
